ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team split its doubleheader on Friday against California Baptist, falling 11-8 in a back-and-forth game one before responding with a 2-0 shutout victory in game two at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 18-20 overall record and a 6-5 record in WAC play.
At the plate, the Mavericks were led by
Kaitlyn Sailor, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double to pace UTA's offense. The Mavericks totaled seven hits in the contest, with
Mia McNulty,
Dee McClarity,
Peyton Holland,
Kelsey Creech and
Talia Maldonado each adding a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA struck first in the top of the bottom of the second as
Talia Maldonado delivered an RBI double to right field, scoring
Kaylee Schweitzer.
Following a 30-minute weather delay before the bottom of the third, the Mavericks added to their advantage in the sixth. Sailor drove a double to center field, bringing home
Peyton Holland to extend the lead to 2-0.
Offensively and defensively, UTA held CBU scoreless the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory.

The Mavericks will look to take game three tomorrow, for Alumni Day at noon and cap off the series.
