ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team dropped its weekend series finale to California Baptist, falling 7-8 in on Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 18-21 overall record and a 6-6 record in WAC play.
At the plate, the Mavericks were led by
Dee McClarity, going 3-for-4, with a team high of three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA struck first as
Peyton Holland delivered an RBI double down the left line, scoring
Dee McClarity, 1-0.
CBU answered to tie the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Jordyn Madrigal. The Lancers then took a 2-1 lead with an RBI single to center, scoring Stevie Robison.
Following the delay,
Valeria Feeney ignited the Mavericks in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple down the right field line, scoring
Talia Maldonado and tying the game at 2-2.
CBU responded in the top of the fifth, plating three runs to regain and extend the lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Kelsey Creech cut into the deficit with a two-run home run, bringing UTA within one at 5-4.
In the top of the sixth, CBU plated three more runs to add insurance, 7-4.
CBU was able to hold UTA scoreless all the way to the bottom of the seventh, taking the game, 7-4, and claiming the series victory.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will continue conference play next weekend in St. George, Utah, opening the series with a Friday doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT, before wrapping up Saturday at 1 p.m.
