ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington second baseman Xavier Melendez has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week for the second time this season after a dominant four-game stretch that included a midweek matchup with Baylor and a three-game series at California Baptist.

Melendez was exceptional at the plate during the week, finishing 10-for-17 (.588) with two home runs, a double and nine RBI while posting a .588 on-base percentage and 1.059 slugging percentage across the four contests.

The senior infielder opened the week by delivering a two-run home run in the first inning against Baylor, then continued his hot stretch with a pair of hits in the series opener at California Baptist. Melendez added two more hits and an RBI in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader before closing out the weekend with a career performance in Sunday's series finale.

In the 19-1 victory over the Lancers, Melendez went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBI, highlighted by a grand slam in the second inning that helped propel the Mavericks to their dominant win.

The honor recognizes the top weekly performer in the Western Athletic Conference and marks Melendez's second Player of the Week award of the 2026 season, continuing his standout campaign as one of the conference's most productive hitters. FOLLOW THE MAVS
