Lady Movin’ Mavs Surge Past Arizona, Advance to National Championship

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's wheelchair basketball team is headed back to the biggest stage. Behind a dominant all-around performance, the No. 2 seeded Lady Movin' Mavs powered past No. 3 Arizona, 78-55, in Thursday's semifinal at the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in Tucson.

UTA controlled the game from the outset, setting the tone early with defensive intensity and efficient scoring. The Lady Movin' Mavs dictated the pace on both ends, forcing tough looks while consistently converting on the offensive side. Key contributors stepped up throughout the lineup, showcasing the depth and experience that has defined UTA's season. The group moved the ball well, capitalized in transition, and never allowed Arizona to gain sustained momentum.

By the second half, the Lady Movin' Mavs had fully taken command—extending their lead and closing out the Wildcats to punch their ticket to the national championship game. With the win, UTA continues its pursuit of the program's third national title and first since 2018.

Championship Preview: UTA vs. No. 1 Alabama
Now, one final challenge remains. The Lady Movin' Mavs will face No. 1 seed Alabama on Saturday in a national championship showdown between two of the sport's premier programs.

This matchup is nothing new. UTA and Alabama have battled throughout the season, with Saturday marking their sixth meeting of 2026. The Lady Movin' Mavs have already proven they can compete with—and beat—the Crimson Tide, including a narrow 53-51 win on the road and a 58-55 victory at home.

If the Lady Movin' Mavs can replicate Thursday's performance—controlling tempo and capitalizing on opportunities—they will have a strong chance to bring another national championship back to Arlington.

What's at Stake
Saturday's game represents more than just a title opportunity—it's another chapter in one of the nation's most successful wheelchair basketball programs. Since its inception in 2013, UTA has established itself as a national power, capturing championships in 2016 and 2018. Now, with momentum on their side and a championship within reach, the Lady Movin' Mavs are ready for one final push. Head coach Morgan Wood leads the program as one of its most decorated figures. As a player, she was part of the team's first national title in 2016 and added another in 2018. Wood was also selected to the U.S. Women's National Wheelchair Basketball Team in 2017.

Saturday's Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CT and fans can watch the contest on the National Wheelchair Basketball Association YouTube Page. Full tournament details can be found on the official tournament page.
