Women's Wheelchair Basketball

Morgan Wood stepping down as Lady Movin' Mavs head coach

ARLINGTON, TexasUT Arlington women's wheelchair basketball head coach Morgan Wood is stepping down from her role after four full seasons at the helm. Her final day will be July 31 so as to ensure a smooth transition for the program. Wood's decision comes amid a desire to move closer to family with her infant son.

Wood has been an integral part of the Lady Movin' Mavs program since it began in 2013 as both a coach and a player. While competing as a player, Wood was a part of two national championship winners in both 2016 and 2018. Wood took over as the interim head coach in 2022 in the months preceding nationals and has held the position ever since.

UTA is coming off a 9-4 campaign in the spring of 2026. The Movin' Mavs earned the No. 2 seed in the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, toppling No. 3 seed Arizona in the tournament semifinals. UTA then took on top-seeded Alabama, falling 55-37 in the national championship.

"As the first women's athlete for the program while earning my undergraduate and graduate degree at UTA before returning as head coach, this program will always be close to my heart," Wood said. "I truly believe this program has one of the best groups of athletes that it's had in a very long time."

A search is underway for the next head coach of the program.
