AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Arlington track & field team concluded a successful weekend at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday with more strong performances, led by a school-record relay run.
The UTA men's 4x800m relay team of
Jackson Cichon,
Leo LeGrand,
Daniel Armstrong and
Alex Kalmar placed second in the event with a UTA-record time of 7:22.01. The squad shattered the old school mark of 7:26.47, which was established in 2009, by nearly five seconds.
In other action,
Hayden Wilson grabbed ninth place in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.98m on the weather-delayed final day.
A pair of freshmen competed in field events in the afternoon. Abisayo Gbakino placed ninth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.70m, while
Lucas Cano posted a throw of 49.06m in the men's discus to finish 12th.
"Both the men's and women's teams performed well all week," UTA head coach
John Sauerhage said. "Our list of top performers is getting longer as we head into the stretch run of the season before the conference meet. We continue to get consistent performances in all event areas and are looking forward to next week."
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will continue the outdoor season next week with a large group set for action at the Baylor Invitational (Friday), while multi-event participants will compete at the 44 Farms Invitational (Friday and Saturday).
