ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's track & field teams return to action, hosting the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Maverick Stadium. Competition begins on Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.
Both UTA squads were picked to finish third in the WAC Pre-Championship Coaches Poll. Utah Valley earned the top spot on both the men's and women's sides, while Tarleton State was selected second.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Competition begins Thursday morning with the decathlon at 9 a.m. and the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. Thursday's field events open at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and pole vault, followed by the men's hammer throw at 1p.m. and women's javelin at 3:30 p.m.
Thursday evening featured preliminary races in the 100m race, 200m race and 400m hurdles. The day concludes with the women's and men's 10,000m finals at 8 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., respectively.
Friday begins with the conclusion of the combined events. Women's field events start with the long jump at 11 a.m., while the men's shot put begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday's track schedule includes preliminary races in the 110m hurdles, 100 hurdles, 800m, 400m and 100m. The women's and men's steeplechase finals are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
The final day of competition begins Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women's discus. Additional field events throughout the day include the women's high jump, men's triple jump and pole vault, along with the men's discus, high jump, javelin and the women's triple jump.
Saturday's track events will all be final races, beginning with the women's 4x100 relay at 4 p.m. and the men's race at 4:10 p.m. Running events throughout the evening include the 1500m, hurdle events, 400m, 800m, 200m and 5000m. The meet concludes with the 1600m relay at 7:20 p.m.
A senior recognition ceremony will take place at 7:45 p.m., followed by the championship awards ceremony at 8 p.m.
SAUERHAGE RETIREMENT EVENT
On Saturday, May 16, UTA Athletics will host a retirement reception for UTA alum and longtime head track & field coach
John Sauerhage beginning at 5 p.m. at Maverick Stadium on the southwest corner of the stadium. The reception will run through the conclusion of the meet. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Tickets for the event will be available on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. Day passes are $10 for adults and $7 for children and seniors/military. Students receive free admission with a valid school ID at the box office.

MAVS TO FOLLOW THIS WEEKEND
- Alex Kalmar has put together a breakout senior campaign, breaking his own program in the men's outdoor 800m with a time of 1:46.86. He clocked a 1:46.55 at SMU Invite, breaking the school record once again. Kalmar has earned WAC Track Athlete of the Week honors twice during the outdoor season.
- Emilia Mandl has continued to shine in the women's 800m. At the SMU Invite, she moved to No. 4 in program history in the outdoor 800m. Mandl also claimed the WAC Indoor Championship title in the event earlier this year.
- Freshman Arieanna Mcpeak has quickly made a name for herself, earning WAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors. She has recorded multiple PRs during the outdoor season in the long jump and triple jump while collecting WAC Field Athlete of the Week honors and five outdoor first-place finishes.
- Eliza Lemberga has highlighted the Mavericks in the combined events. Earlier this season, she moved to No. 2 in program history in the heptathlon with 5,493 points at the 44 Farms Invitational.
- In the distance events, Angel Sanchez has claimed three first place medals in the 1500m and 5000m this season while PR'ing at every meet during the outdoor season. Kellen Frickel and Justina Lusby have also continued to improve in the 3K steeplechase and are two to keep an eye on this weekend.
- Alexis Cain broke the school record in the women's outdoor 400m earlier this season at the OU O'Ring Alumni Open (52.53). Freshmen sprinters Devin Payne and Jayden Haynes continue to show out for the Mavericks, earning multiple first place finishes and personal bests.
- In the throwing events, Jaalah Puryear continues to be a dominant force for the women while Lucas Cano has led the men's group. Puryear broke the women's hammer throw school record with a mark 56.90m at the Clyde Hard Classic and set the indoor women's hammer throw record during the indoor season. Cano has recorded multiple first-place finishes while posting a personal-best 55.96m in the men's discus, ranking No. 2 all-time program history.
