OREM, Utah – Utah Valley used a four-run third inning and back-to-back home runs in the seventh to pull away from UT Arlington, 13-5, in Thursday's WAC series opener at UCCU Ballpark. The Mavericks fall to 18-29 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
UTA responded with two runs in the sixth on an RBI groundout by
Clark Springs and a two-run double by
Jackson Hill, then added two more in the seventh on a two-RBI double by
Xander McAfee. The Mavericks could not overcome a big seventh inning from the Wolverines, who plated four runs on a pair of home runs to extend their lead.
Hill finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace UTA offensively. McAfee doubled twice and drove in two, and
Preston Knott added an RBI single.
Caylon Dygert took the loss, dropping to 5-5 after allowing six runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings.
