OREM, Utah – A walk-off throwing error in the ninth inning lifted Utah Valley to a 10-9 win over UT Arlington on Friday at UCCU Ballpark, dropping the Mavericks to 18-30 overall and 7-10 in WAC play.
UTA trailed by as many as seven runs before rallying with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to pull within one. The Mavericks could not complete the comeback, as an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth ended the game.
Xavier Melendez led UTA going 4-for-6, while
Hank Harp went 3-for-6 with two runs scored.
Noah Fields collected three hits and drove in two runs with a single in the sixth, and
Harold Laracuente added two hits and an RBI.
Hayes Melville took the loss, dropping to 3-1 on the season.
PITCHING PROFILE
Kyle Winkler allowed six runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings.
Nick Perry gave up three runs in 2.1 innings.
Landon Murphy tossed two scoreless innings.
Hayes Melville allowed one unearned run in 1.2 innings.
