OREM, Utah –
Xander McAfee homered and
Clark Springs delivered a go-ahead three-run triple as UT Arlington closed the regular season with an 11-10 win over Utah Valley on Saturday at UCCU Ballpark. The Mavericks finish the regular season at 19-30 overall and 8-10 in WAC play.
McAfee's three-run home run in the third gave UTA an early lead, and Springs' triple in the fifth put the Mavericks ahead for good after the teams traded runs through a back-and-forth contest.
Preston Knott added a two-run home run in the sixth, and
Hank Harp drove in a run in the seventh. Utah Valley rallied with three in the ninth but came up short.
McAfee finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Springs went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Knott had two hits and two RBI. Harp collected three hits on the day.
Jack Barr earned the win, improving to 1-1 on the season with three scoreless innings in relief.
