MESA, Ariz. – Utah Tech held UT Arlington scoreless through nine innings in a 4-0 WAC Tournament first-round decision Wednesday at Hohokam Stadium. The Mavericks drop to 19-31 on the season and move to the elimination bracket.
The Trailblazers built their lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of UTA errors. Utah Tech added an insurance run in the eighth to close out the shutout. The Mavericks managed just four hits on the day and went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position.
Caylon Dygert took the loss, dropping to 5-6 after allowing three runs — two earned — on five hits over 6.2 innings with six strikeouts.
