ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington Flag Football will be well represented on the international stage as four Mavericks have been selected to compete in the upcoming International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Flag Championship Tournament in Dusseldorf, Germany, looking to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Representing their respective national teams are:

• Tessa Davis – Quarterback, Australia
• Amelie Prosser-Shaw – Wide Receiver, Australia
• Tomoyo Yagi – Center/Wide Receiver, Japan
• Laura Hernandez Sanchez – Wide Receiver/Defensive Back, Spain

The quartet will compete against the world's top flag football athletes as they represent both UT Arlington and their home countries in one of the sport's premier international competitions. Davis and Prosser-Shaw will suit up for Australia, while Yagi will represent Japan. Hernandez Sanchez will compete for Spain, continuing UT Arlington's growing international presence within the sport.

Prosser-Shaw and Davis are the first Australians to earn NCAA Division I flag football scholarships and were recruited by the University of Texas at Arlington to join its newly established flag football program as key offensive players.

Prosser-Shaw has represented Australia since 2025 and was the leading touchdown scorer for NSW Stat flag football in 2025 and 2026. She played semiprofessional flag football in the AFLW for the Box Hill Hawks in 2024.

Davis helped Australia earn a silver medal at the 2025 Asia Oceania Continental Championships and has been a member of the national team since 2024. She was also a Junior State Representative at the National Championships for both Australia Rules Football and Cricket. 

Yagi led Japan to the 2023 Asia Oceania Continental Championship as well as third place at the 2024 World Championships, and third at the 2025 Asia Oceania Continental Championship.

Hernandez Sanchez transferred to UTA from Kansas Wesleyan after leading the team to third at the NAIA Nationals and KCAC Tournament. Made 50 tackles, six interceptions, 10 PBU, three sacks, and recorded 319 receiving yards alongside five touchdowns in 16 games.

The selections further highlight the global reach of the Mavericks' flag football program, which continues to attract and develop elite talent from around the world. The international experience gained through the IFAF World Championship Tournament also provides an opportunity to qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
