PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - - The Texas-Arlington women's doubles team of Marketa Cizova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Daniela Novakova (Prague, Czech Republic) dropped an 8-6 decision to top-seed Angela Buergis and Boda Reddy of Minnesota in the qualifying match of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships late Sunday.
Noted as the premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season begins Oct. 9-12 at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Cizova and Novakova defeated Vanderbilt's duo of Amanda Fish and Ashley Schellas, 8-6, in the opening round and Rice's Tracie Chong and Annie Goodrich, 8-3, to advance to the qualifying match.
In singles competition, Novakova fell to Lorena Arias of Washington State 6-2, 6-1 and Cizova, seeded seventh in the draw, dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to North Carolina's Kendall Cline.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the UTA women's tennis team competed at the Cougar Fall Classic in Houston.
Monika Peciulionyte (Siauliai, Lithuania), Gretel Hach (Wurmlingen, Germany) and Anete Rozkaline (Riga, Latvia) each won their respective flights. Peciulionyte defeated Arizona State's Liga Geme 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to win the Flight "A" singles championship. Hach took at 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 decision over Sam Houston State's Emma McDougall and Rozkaline defeated Texas State's Katie Felder 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 for the Flight "I" championship.
In doubles play, Peciulionyte and Simri van Rooyen (Stellenbosch, South Africa) defeated New Mexico State's Lejla Pordbic and Isabelle Mignot 8-2 for the Flight "A" title.
