Six-foot-four forward Myles Guidry, ranked among the top 300 high school seniors in the nation by Athlon Sports Magazine, tops off a stellar recruiting class during the early signing period which began Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Joining Guidry is 6-foot-5 forward Larry Posey of Houston Milby.
"On paper, this is the start of a great recruiting class," said UTA head men's basketball coach Eddie McCarter, now in his 12th season. "These players will help to fill needs since we will lose our front line players in Derrick Obasohan, Roy Johnson and Donny Beacham. We had these guys at the top of our list all summer long and to be able to get them is tremendous."
Both players ranked in the top 50 in the state by most recruiting services. Posey, a two-time all-District 17-5A pick, comes off a Houston Milby team ranked No. 1 in the Class 5A boys basketball poll by Mike Kunstadt's Texas Hoops.com. He averaged 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks as a junior. He played for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Houston Select summer league team and was named the "Most Valuable Player" at the College Station Great American Shootout Tournament after scoring better than 25.0 points per game. Posey chose UTA over North Texas, Tulsa, Rice and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Guidry was named by Athlon Sports Top 300 High Schools. He was also listed No. 147 in the country by Prep Stars.com and 244 by Hoop Scoop Online.com He helped Elsik High School to a 29-6 record last season averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds. He was one of seven Texas prep players named to the Adidas Big Time AAU All-Tournament Team in Las Vegas, Nev.
