ARLINGTON, Texas - Ashley Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with a match-high 20 kills as The University of Texas at Arlington took sole possession of second place in the Southland Conference with a 30-26, 30-24, 29-31, 30-22 victory over Texas-San Antonio here Saturday.
UTA took control of the match early, using a 13-4 run to take an 18-9 lead in game one. The Mavericks hit a staggering .417 attack percentage in the game, led by Ashley Van Antwerp's five kills.
The Mavericks led throughout game two, pushing to a 30-24 win behind four kills apiece from Van Antwerp and Caley Smith.
UTSA held a 12-9 lead early in game three but the Mavericks climbed back to tie the game at 14-all. From that point on neither team lead by more than two and the squads traded leads until the Roadrunners used back-to-back kills from Brittany Hildebrand to seal the win and force a fourth game.
UTA trailed early in the fourth game but captured the lead for good on a block by Smith and Melissa Marek.
Morgan Rogers recorded 19 kills and 22 digs for her fourteenth career double-double. Torie Dacus (12) and Dani Johnson (10) joined Rogers in the defensive efforts. Setter Heather Dunn recorded 50 assists in the match.
Texas-Arlington will makes it final road swing through Louisiana next weekend when it travels to face Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe.
