MAVERICKS SWEEP NORTHWESTERN STATE

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Ashley Van Antwerp led the Mavericks offense for the third straight match and Melissa Marek led with six blocks as Texas-Arlington handed Northwestern State its first Southland Conference loss at Prather Coliseum, 30-23, 30-28, 30-17, Friday evening.

The Mavericks improved to 17-4 overall and 9-3 in the league while NSU fell to 10-12 and 6-6.

After being knotted at five in game one, UTA used a 9-1 run to build a 14-6 lead and never look back. The Mavericks capitalized on four Demon service errors and nine attack errors in the game.

UTA rebounded from a late eight point deficit in game two, inching its way to a 30-28 win. Van Antwerp paced the Mavs with nine of her kills in game two.

The Demons hit just .114 in game three compared to the .571 attack percentage of the visitors. UTA completed the sweep with a 30-17 win in game three.

Torie Dacus was the lone Maverick to record a double-double, collecting 10 kills and 12 digs in the match. Morgan Rogers added 12 kills to the offensive efforts. Melissa Marek led UTA with six blocks.

Texas-Arlington will return to action Saturday in a 4 p.m. match at Louisiana-Monroe.
