ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-Arlington junior Rola Ogunoye tied a season-high with 25 points and moved into tenth place on the school's all-time scoring list as the Mavericks overwhelmed Stephen F. Austin 68-45 in a Southland Conference game at Texas Hall Saturday.
UTA (14-9, 8-3) won for the fifth time in six games while SFA fell to 5-16 and 5-5.
Besides Ogunoye, UTA's Krystal Buchanan was the only other player in double figures with 14 and a game-high eight assists. Stephen F. Austin was led by LaToya Mills and Kendria Smith with eight points each.
UTA held SFA without a field goal for 13:11 in the first half to overcome a 9-6 deficit and built 27-14 lead after two Buchanan free throws with 4:11 left in the half.
UTA outscored Stephen F. Austin 24-8 in the paint and outrebounded the Ladyjacks, 40-30.
UTA slowly stretched out the lead in the second half to as many as 20 before a late layup in Tabitha Wesley gave the Lady Mavs their 23-point edge.
NOTES: The win was just the fifth in the 47-game series for UTA... Ogunoye's 25 points gives her 1,047 career points and trails Julie Massey (1,049) by two points for ninth place on the all-time list... LaToya Lewsi 3-pointer moves her into sole possession of third place on the single season 3-pointers made list at UTA... With four 3-pointers in the game, UTA continues to add to its already single-season record... UTA can clinch a spot in the upcoming SLC Postseason Tournament with a win over Texas-San Antonio Wednesday.
