SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas-Arlington guard Jarrett Howell scored 16 of his career-high 20 points in the second half as the Mavericks shot 62.1% from the field enroute to a 79-73 win over Texas-San Antonio at the Convocation Center Wednesday night.

UTA (12-11, 7-5) won its fourth straight and won their second straight road game and dropping 10 of their first 11. Texas-San Antonio falls to 12-13 and 7-5.

Joining Howell in double figures for the Mavericks was Derrick Obasohan (14), Donny Beacham (13) and Keith Howell (10). UTSA was led by reserve guard Raphael Posey with 17. LeRoy Hurd dropped in 15, David President 12 and Justin Harbert 10.

UTA made 18 of 29 field goals in the second half to erase a 33-31 halftime defcit.

There were five ties and eight lead changes in the second half. UTA took the lead for good on a Steven Thomas layup with 4:51 to play. The Mavericks made six of seven free throws in the final 2:03 to seal the win.

"This is a huge win for us," said UTSA head coach Eddie McCarter. "UTSA has been playing very well and I thought we did a good job defending and cutting down our turnovers. Our guys did a tremendous job on the boards and just stayed close until the end."

Leading 73-71 in the final minute of the game, Beacham snared a rebound off a Posey miss and then Jarrett Howell made a driving layup and was fouled for a 3-point play to give UTA a 76-71 lead with 26.5 seconds to play and the win.

Obasohan was held to one field goal the final 36 minutes of the game and opening with a 3-pointer and mid-range jumper with 16:21 to play in the first half for an early 7-3 lead.

UTA outrebounded the bigger Roadrunners, 45-21, including 21 offensive rebounds.

UTA hosts Texas State at Texas Hall Saturday at 4 p.m.
