SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas-Arlington women's basketball coach Donna Capps would think holding Texas-San Antonio to 55 points would be enough to win.
But Capps wouldn't have thought the team which has set the school's single-season record with 145 3-pointers, would go 1-for-17 from 3-point range in a 55-43 loss to the Roadrunners at the Convocation Center Wednesday night.
The loss snaps a three-game losing streak for UTA (14-10, 8-4) while Texas-San Antonio improvoes to 11-12 and 7-5.
UTA was led by junior forward Rola Ogunoye with 18 points and 12 rebounds. She moved into ninth place on the career scoring list with 1,065 points. Sophomore center Lacy Mingee and senior forward Nikki Hendrix led UTSA with 16 points each.
Texas-San Antonio held UTA to three field goals - all by Ogunoye - in the final 10:30 of the game to pull away from the Lady Mavs.
UTA led 33-31 after a Sheena Johnson basket in the paint with 10:53 to play, but UTSA went on a 7-0 run over the next 2:17 to take the lead for good. A basket by Hendrix with 8:36 gave the Roadrunners a 38-33 edge.
A layup by Ogunoye with 8:22 left and two free throws by Terra Wallace with 7:28 remaining trimmed the lead to 38-37, but UTSA went on a 7-2 run to lead 45-39 on a Hendrix 3-point play with 4:53 left.
UTA hosts Texas State at Texas Hall Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
