ISLANDERS ROLL PAST MAVS, 12-5

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pounded out a season-high 21 hits to defeat Texas-Arlington 12-5 at Clay Gould Ballpark Saturday afternoon.

The win evens TAMUCC's record at 12-12. UTA (10-7) had a six-game win streak snapped.

TAMUCC tagged starter Grant Varnell (1-3) for six runs in 1-2/3 innings of work. Home runs by Bobby Mora and James Garner highlighted the Islanders' offensive attack and threy three in the first and second innings and never looked back.

UTA had three players with multiple hits in trhe game. Center fielder Paul Bruder went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Hunter Pence and Ryan Nelson collected two hits each.

Game three of the series was stopped in the top of the second inning under a steady rainfall. The game will be picked up where it left off at 2 p.m. Sunday.
