ARLINGTON, Texas - Houston used a three-run third inning to hand Texas-Arlington a 4-2 loss in the nightcap of a doubleheader Tuesday evening at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington. The Lady Mavericks edged past the Cougars in game one, 3-2.

UTA took a 1-0 lead in the first inning for the second straight game. Beverly Rowan started the two-out rally by drawing a walk before back-to-back singles from Autumn Petrino and Amanda Haney loaded the bases. The Lady Mavericks could only manage one run as a passed ball allowed Rowan to score the first run of the game.

Houston took its first lead of the game after a three-run third inning. Kristen Glowacz's two-RBI double put the Cougars in front 2-1 and a RBI groundout by designated player Arelis Ferreris plated the final run of the frame and gave UH a two-run advantage. Ferreris knocked a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth to pad the Cougars lead.

Autumn Petrino cut into the Cougars lead as she drove the ball over the right center field wall for her second home run of the season.

Freshman Lauren Hebert (1-4) was tagged with the loss for the Lady Mavericks after giving up four earned runs in 7.0 innings of work.

Texas-Arlington returns to action this weekend as it plays host to Louisiana-Monroe for a three-game Southland Conference series at Allan Saxe Field. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday's finale will begin at 1 p.m.
