ARLINGTON, Texas - After knocking in the game-winning runs in two of Texas-Arlington's three games last week, freshman infielder Dee Jay Nelson was named the Southland Conference hitter of the week. This is the first honor for UTA this season.
Nelson contributed a two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lady Mavericks edged past visiting North Texas 2-1 last Wednesday evening.
The freshman knocked her second game-winner of the week in Saturday's 1-0 win over then league-leading Texas State. Nelson's RBI single in the second inning was all UTA needed as they held on to drop the 'Cats 1-0 and sweep Sunday's doubleheader.
Texas-Arlington will travel to San Marcos for this weekend for the 2004 Southland Conference tournament. The defending champions are the fourth seed and will face third-seeded Sam Houston State Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. You can listen live by pointing your web browser to www.utamavs.com and clicking on the UTA Radio link.
