Junior forward Danny Granger poured in 25 points, including two key three-pointers during a 12-0 run late in the second half to lift New Mexico to a 64-55 win over Texas-Arlington in men's college basketball here Monday.
New Mexico (13-2) won its second straight road game after losing 27 straight. David Chiotti was the only other Lobo in double figures with 10. UTA (5-5) lost at home for the first time this season. The Mavericks were led by guard Jarrett Howell's 20 points and 13 from junior forward Steven Thomas.
UTA whittled a 14-point lead down to six, 40-34, after a Howell layup with 13:01 to play. But New Mexico countered with back-to-back three pointers by Granger and another by Mark Walters to lead 49-34 with 11:02 left in the game.
UTA cut an 18-point New Mexico lead to eight, 59-51, on a Howell three-pointer with 2:00 to play in the game. UNM made 5 of 10 free throws in the final 1:35 to seal the win.
New Mexico made just two of its first 15 field goals attempts as both clubs struggled from the field in the first half. UTA lead 8-4 with 13:07 to play in the first half after a Thomas layup. The Mavericks went without a field goal for 6:44 as UNM went on a 16-1 run to take a 20-9 lead after a Granger three-pointer with 6:48 in the half.
