ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-Arlington registered 15 blocks and sophomore Torie Dacus notched a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs to lead the Mavericks to a 22-30, 30-23, 30-19, 30-18 comeback victory over second-place Texas-San Antonio Friday evening in Southland Conference play at Texas Hall.
After dropping game one to the Roadrunners, Texas-Arlington (4-14, 2-7 SLC) roared back to take the next three games and the victory. The Mavericks held Texas-San Antonio (11-7, 8-3 SLC) to a .092 hitting percentage and forced them into 39 hitting errors, with 35 of them coming in games two through four.
Senior Ashley Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 15 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore setter Emily Nedderman dished out 33 assists and also had nine total blocks. Senior Melissa Marek chipped in with eight blocks of her own, while sophomore Ellen Murray added seven blocks.
Connie Pickard led the Roadrunners with 13 kills and Megan Daniel tallied 12 kills of her own. Erin McMillian led all players with 23 digs.
Texas-Arlington will be back in action Saturday when they host conference rival Texas State at Texas Hall. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Mavericks fell to the Bobcats, 3-2, earlier in the season, after holding a 2-0 advantage.
