BULLS RUN OVER MAVS 74-50

Nov. 19, 2005

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla. - Jessica Dickson scored a game-high 19 points and Nalini Miller added 18 points and 10 rebounds as South Florid jumper all over Texas-Arlington early and cruised to a 74-50 victory Saturday afternoon on the first day of the Image Depot Shootout hosted by USF.

USF (1-0) scored the first 10 points of the game as Dickson started with the first three points and Rachael Sheets added five more for the Bulls. The Mavs finally got on the board at the 17:04 mark as Terra Wallace connected on a driving layup.

The Mavs (0-1) would fall behind by 15 points before Jamie Buxkemper extended the consecutive games with a three-pointer to 105 games with a triple from the left wing. Melanie Lane would follow with a bucket to trim the deficit to 10 points. Following a Shantia Grace basket, the Mavs would score the next three points on a Wallace layup and a Dixon free throw.

The Bulls would make a run to end the half as they outscored UTA 10-5 in the final 5:54 of the half to take a 37-23 lead into the locker room.

"We did a pitiful job on transition defense," said head coach Donna Capps. "Plus we let them totally control us on the boards so those two problems got us we were."

UTA would start the second half on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to nine points. Buxkemper connected on her second three-pointer of the game and Lane and Dixon connected on back-to-back baskets.

The Bulls took over the game from there as a 14-4 run would open up a 19-point advantage. Sheats led the charge with five points and Dickson added four.

A Dickson jumper just 1:17 later would push the advantage to 20 points before the Mavs went on an 8-4 run as Ashley Cole hit a driving layup and drained a long trey. The Bulls continued their domination the remainder of the second half as they extended their lead to its final margin of 24 points.

Wallace led the Mavs offense with 12 points. A trio of freshmen had a strong showing in their first game as Dixon tallied nine points, Cole seven and Buxkemper six points and six rebounds. Lane led UTA on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Mavs return to action tomorrow when they face LaSalle at 11 a.m. CST on the second day of the Image Depot Shootout.
