Final Stats
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas-Arlington volleyball team fell to Northwestern State, 30-19, 30-19, 30-23, Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall in Southland Conference play.
In game one, the two teams battled to a 12-12 tie. Northwestern State (9-14, 7-8 SLC) pulled away, using an 18-7 run, keyed by three kills by Juliana Abreu.
Game two saw the Lady Demons jump out to a 7-1 lead as the Mavericks (4-20, 2-13 SLC) had four attack errors during the run. From there, Northwestern State never look back, cruising to a 30-19 victory in the second game. Whitney King produced five kills during the game, while UTA senior Melissa Marek had four kills.
In game three, Texas-Arlington held close behind three kills from sophomore Torie Dacus and two from senior Ashley Van Antwerp to make the score, 14-14. However, the Lady Demons closed the match out, using a 16-9 run with four kills from Abreu.
Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 11 kills, while Marek chipped in with seven of her own. Sophomore Emily Nedderman dished out a team-high 13 assists and sophomore Ashley Smith added 11. Smith also led the team with 15 assists.
Shannon Puder led Northwestern State with 14 kills and also registered six blocks. Flavia Belo led the team with 41 assists, and Priscila Augusto tallied 12 digs.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they travel to take on Southland Conference foe Lamar on Tuesday evening. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. in Beaumont.
