MONROE, La. - Senior forward Nina Randle scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the second half as Louisiana-Monroe rallied from an 11-point first half deficit to upset Texas-Arlington 59-47 in a match up of the top two teams in Southland Conference women's basketball Saturday night.
ULM (16-7, 9-3) won its seventh straight game and moved to within a game of the Mavs in the standings with four regular season games left to play. UTA, trying to win its first-ever SLC regular season championship, falls to 15-8 and 10-2.
Rola Ogunoye led UTA with 16 points and Terra Wallace added 15.
UTA could manage just seven field goals the final 22:54 of the game and finished the game shooting 31.0 percent (18 of 58) from the field.
La.-Monroe outscored UTA 36-22 in the second half as they turned 12 second-half turnovers into 12 points.
ULM took the lead for good when Randle made two free throws with 13:19 to play to give the Lady Indians a 36-35 lead. Randle had 10 points over a 5:10 span to build the ULM lead to 45-37 after she scored eight straight points.
In the first half, UTA used a 14-4 run to build its largest lead of the game, 22-11, after a Wallace three-pointer with 4:10 to play in the first half. ULM responded with an 11-3 run over the final 3:32 to cut the lead to 25-23 at halftime following a Stephanie Williams three-pointer with eight seconds.
Both teams started slow to begin the game. She did not return in the first half. Meanwhile, Wallace helped UTA survive Ogunoye's absence with a pair of three-pointers in the final 4:10 and led UTA with 10 first-half points.
UTA returns to action Thursday at Stephen F. Austin. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
