ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-Arlington freshman Pavla Mesterova was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced today (Wednesday). Mesterova was also honored on February 16, and is the lone Lady Maverick to capture the award this season.
Mesterova led the Lady Mavericks to a 3-0 overall mark last week and a 2-0 start in league action. She went 3-0 at the top singles flight and 3-0 at the No. 2 doubles spot with fellow Czech native Daniela Novakova. The freshman earned straight-set victories over Nicholls State and Southwest Missouri's top players and dropped Southeastern Louisiana's Kovac, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The freshman is 4-2 in singles action and 5-1 in doubles play with Novakova.
In the latest poll, released on March 8 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Mesterova is ranked 82nd nationally.
The Lady Mavericks (3-3, 2-0) return to action at Stephen F. Austin on Friday. First serve is set for 11 a.m. in Nacogdoches.
