Women's Tennis preps for rematch with Abilene Christian

ARLINGTON, TexasUT Arlington women's tennis is set for round two against WAC rival Abilene Christian, the final regular season matchup between the teams. The Mavericks won the first matchup 5-2 at home and now make the trek for the 2 p.m. Wednesday matchup at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion in Abilene.

UTA (5-12) is coming off a split weekend homestand, dropping Friday's matchup with Arkansas State 4-0 before rebounding and knocking off the UTSA Roadrunners in a 4-3 thriller on Saturday.

The Mavericks won doubles for the fourth time this spring against the Roadrunners with the Court 1 duo of Elizaveta Mladentseva and Sofia Selle as well as Tasnime Ahamout and Natalia Gonzalez on Court 2 picking up the wins for UTA.

Singles play came down to the wire. The Mavericks and Roadrunners split the six bouts, with the match coming down to a three-set tilt on Court 6. It was there that Flora Farkaslaki knocked off Laia Tarazona Peyro 7-5 in the final set, winning the match for UTA.

Mladentseva and Selle each won their singles matches as well on Court 1 and Court 2 respectively. Selle's straight-set victory was the first singles match completed. Mladentseva overcame a first-set defeat to win the last two 6-3 and 6-2.

In their first matchup with Abilene Christian (7-11), UTA had similar success in doubles. Ahamout and Gonzalez won on Court 2 while Diana Kaibara and Farkaslaki picked up a win on Court 3. Ahamout and Gonzalez's efforts ultimately netted them WAC Doubles Team of the Week honors.

Kaibara also went on to win her Court 2 singles bout in straight sets, bagging her WAC Singles Player of the Week. Selle, Farkaslaki and Ahamout also won their singles tilts.

This will be the seventh matchup all-time between ACU and UTA. ACU leads the series 4-2.

Scouting Abilene Christian
