ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's tennis dropped its match with Arkansas State on Friday evening. The Red Wolves defeated the Mavericks 4-0.

UTA (4-12) opened with a loss in doubles play on Court 2 and Court 3. Elizaveta Mladentseva and Sofia Selle nearly won on Court 1 for UTA, but the match was left unfinished with the Maverick duo ahead 5-2 after Arkansas State's Helena Bueno and Hanmare McAslin took a 6-3 win on Court 3 to clinch doubles for the Red Wolves.

Arkansas State (9-7) picked up straight-set victories on courts six, four and two in rapid succession to secure the victory. UTA battled hard on the remaining three courts before the bouts were ultimately left unfinished. 

Mladentseva rebounded from a 6-3 first set loss to Arkansas State's Anna Grigoreva on Court 1, taking a 5-4 lead in the second before the match was left unfinished. Mladentseva's doubles partner Selle had a competitive match on Court 3 with McAslin in a back-and-forth 7-5 first set won by the ASU sophomore. The match was abandoned in the second set with Selle behind 4-2. 

Vanja Cado's Court 4 match against the Red Wolves' Carla Muro Castellvi needed tiebreakers to be decided in the first set. Casteveli won tiebreakers 7-3 to take the first set, but trailed 2-1 in the second before the match came to an end.

The Mavericks will have a quick turnaround as they are back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday, hosting the UTSA Roadrunners at the UTA Tennis Center.
