ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-San Antonio freshman guard Aldric Reynolds came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points to lead the Roadrunners past Texas-Arlington 74-71 in Southland Conference action Thursday night at Texas Hall.
Reynolds was inserted into the lineup after starter Eric Young left the game five minutes into the game with an injury. The Roadrunners were already shorthanded without guards Roderick Rodgers and Andre Owens. Rogers was suspended from the team for an undisclosed team violation while Owens did not make the road trip.
Reynolds' 11 first-half points staked UTSA to a 43-31 halftime lead and UTSA was able to hold off a late rally by UTA that saw them trim a 68-56 lead with 2:52 to play to 74-71.
UTA (11-13, 4-7) dropped its fifth straight game. The Mavericks were led in scoring by senior guard Jarrett Howell (Arlington, Texas) with 24 points. Steven Thomas (Fort Worth, Texas) added 15 points and 11 rebounds, but made just 5-of-16 free throws. Sophomore Jermaine Griffin (Houston, Texas) added 10.
Joining Reynolds in double figures was Gabe Bernard with 13 and Kurt Attaway with 10 for UTSA, now 10-13 overall and 5-7 in the SLC.
UTA returns to action Saturday when they host Lamar at 2 p.m. on Homecoming Day.
