STRUGGLES CONTINUE IN LOSS TO AGGIES

Feb. 21, 2006

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - The early season struggles continue for the young Texas-Arlington baseball team as Texas A&M took advantage of some early mistakes and made it look easy as they handed the Mavericks a 14-3 defeat Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Aggies (8-0) got rolling in the second inning as Austin Boggs and Spencer Jackson started things with singles through the right side. Adam Hale was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Josh Stinson drew a bases-loaded walk. Brandon Glover plated the second run with a sacrifice foul out to left field. Parker Dalton delivered the third run of the inning with an RBI single through the left side, but when the ball rolled through the left fielder's legs all they way to the wall, Dalton raced all the way around the bases to make the score 5-0.

TA added to its lead in the third inning as Boggs hit a one-out double to right field and Jackson was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Hale drew a walk to load the bases. Stinson drove in a run with a groundout to second on a diving play from Daniel Rieder before Dalton continued his big day with a two-run single back up the middle.

UTA (3-4) threatened in the third inning as Kyle Thomason blooped a one-out single to left and Colin Garner reached on an error. Robby Winn singled through the right side to load the bases with one out. The Mavs failed to score as Aggie starter Chance Corgan got a foul out and a strikeout to end the inning and the threat.

The Aggies added to their advantage in the fourth as a two-out rally started with walks to Boggs and Jackson. Hale plated two runs with a double to right center and Stinson followed with an RBI double to left center.

The Mavs finally got on the board in the fifth as James Smith drew a pinch-hit walk to start the inning and went to third on a pair of wild pitches. After a one-out walk to Adam Moore, Ben Burum delivered a two-run triple just inside the bag at first base.

TA struck again in the eighth inning as Dalton was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a two-base error off the bat of Infante. Stein drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field and HIll followed with an RBI single through the left side.

Chris Taylor (0-1) took the loss for the Mavs as he allowed eight runs, six earned, on five hits in three innings of work. Corgan (2-0) earned the victory as he allowed two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

The Mavs return to action on Feb. 23 as they play Oral Roberts in the first round of the 2nd Annual Midland Collegiate Classic. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Citibank Ballpark.
