FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas-Arlington men's tennis team opened the 2006 season with a 5-2 loss to crosstown-rival TCU, Wednesday evening at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU is ranked No. 41 in the nation.
The Mavericks (0-1) lost all three doubles matches as TCU (2-0) took the doubles point to begin the match.
In singles play, senior Sandy Farquharsen defeated Andrei Mlenda, 6-1, 0-6, 6-1, at the No.1 position. Sophomore Daniel Omana won the other point for the Mavericks, defeating Cosmin Cotet, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 3 position. Sophomore Alberto Agis lost a tough match to Jacopo Tezza, 5-7, 6-4, 10-4, at the No. 4 position.
The Mavericks will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on #21 Texas Tech. First-serve is set for 9 a.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
