March 1, 2006

Box Score

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Texas-Arlington catcher Adam Moore belted two solo home runs, but Arkansas countered with a pair of home runs and five RBIs of their own off the bat of Danny Hamblin as the #11 Razorbacks extended the Mavericks losing streak to five games with a 12-4 victory Wednesday afternoon at the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Tournament.

The Razorbacks (10-2) got on the board in the third inning Stephen Robison led off the inning with a bunt base hit to first base and advanced to third on Clint Arnold's double off the base of the wall in left field. After a wild pitch scored the first run, Hamblin plated the second run with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Hogs kept up the moment in the fourth inning as following a Chris Hollensworth single to left field, Brian Walker tripled just inside the bag at first. UA would load the bases with just one out, but UTA starter Kyle Gainley was able to a popout and a flyout to get out of the inning without further damage.

The UA bats came calling again in the fifth as Hamblin started the inning with a home run to left field. Following a pair of singles and walk loaded the bases, Willard drove in a run with a ground out to short before Robison drove in a run with a single to left. Kyle Thomason kept in just a one-run single as he threw out a runner trying to score from second.

UTA (3-8) got on the board in the sixth inning as they sparked a two-out rally with a two-run towering shot down the left-field line off the bat of Moore. Justin Stevens followed with a double into the gap in right center and wen to third on Thomason's single to left field. After a wild pitch scored Stevens, Robby Winn was robbed of an extra-base hit as Robison tracked down the liner just in front of the warning track in left center.

The Hogs got a run back in the home half of the inning as James Ewing hit a one-out double down the left field line and scored on Jake Dugger's single through the right side.

UTA pushed across another run in the seventh as Kyle Rudy started the inning with a base on balls and found himself on third following a couple of groundouts to second base. Daniel Rieder drove in Rudy with a base hit to left field.

UA put the game out of reach in the seventh as three straight hits to start the inning resulted in an RBI single off the bat of Robison. The second run scored on a fielding error before Hamblin's three-run shot to left center.

Gainley (0-2) took the loss as he allowed six runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out two and walked two. Charlie Boyce (1-0) earned the victory for the Razorbacks as he allowed two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three.

The Mavs return to action on 7 p.m. CST as they take on host Hawai'i in a game that was rained out last night.
