MOORE POWERS MAVS TO COMEBACK VICTORY

April 23, 2006

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT-Arlington designated hitter Adam Moore delivered the game-winning two-run double to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap off the Mavericks comeback in a 5-3 victory over Texas-San Antonio Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Kyle Rudy led off the eighth by reaching second on a throwing error by the third baseman. David Newby followed with a base on balls and Daniel Rieder drove in a run with a double into the gap in right center.

After a pitching change, Moore delivered the 2-1 pitch over the head of the right fielder allowing two runners to score. On the very next pitch, Robby Winn sliced an RBI single down the right-field line to give the Mavs the two run advantage.

That would be more than enough for pitcher Chris Taylor who entered the game in the fourth inning and did not allow a base runner for 5.2 innings before giving up a two-out single up the middle in the ninth. He would end the game by getting a fielder's choice to the shortstop. Taylor improved to 2-3 on the season after allowing just one hit and striking out five in six innings of relief.

UTA (19-24, 12-7 SLC) got on the board in the first inning as Moore collected his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall for a solo shot. It was his first home run to right field this season and the first in 108 at-bats.

UTSA (26-13, 12-6 SLC) put together a two-out rally in the third inning to plate three runs. After the first two guys went down on strikes, J.R. Voyles singled through the right side and Michael McKennon walked. Lee Todesco singled up the middle to plate a run. After another base on balls, Michael Rockett plated two runs with a single to left field.

Caleb Barton (0-4) took the loss as he gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits in seven-plus innings of work. He held the Mavs to one run on four hits threw seven innings before tiring in the eighth.

Moore led the offense by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Winn added a pair of hits and an RBI. Rockett led UTSA with three hits.

The Mavs return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 25 as they host local rival TCU. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
