WASSMER RESIGNS

April 3, 2006

Christian Wassmer, Texas-Arlington Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach and Director of the UTA Center, announced his resignation today.

Arguably the best women's tennis coach to lead the Lady Mavericks, Wassmer finishes with a 114-58 overall record. He has led UTA to six regular-season conference championships, four conference tournament championships and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Mavericks have also compiled an amazing 72-3 record in Southland Conference play. He was named SLC Coach of the Year four times (2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005).

Wassmer's women's players have earned 19 first-team all-conference awards in singles and 10 first-team all-conference awards in doubles since 1999.

Wassmer will be the head coach for the Performance Competition Group at the La Vie en Tennis Club in Lucerne, Switzerland. He will also be the co-coach for TC Lido in the Swiss 1st Division Tennis League.

"We thank Christian for his dedication, his commitment to excellence and the outstanding work he has done with our tennis program," said Athletics Director Pete Carlon. "We wish him well in his new position and his future endeavors."

Assistant coach Diego Benitez will take over both the men's and women's program through the remainder of the season. Former UTA tennis standout Christian Jaeger, a three-time Southland Conference Player of the Year from 1997-99 will serve as a volunteer assistant through the remainder of the season.
