ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington women's tennis team are set to compete in the second ever Western Athletic Conference Fall Invitational beginning this Thursday, Oct. 16, and running through Friday, Oct. 18, from the Trailblazer Tennis Courts on the campus of Utah Tech.
The invite will feature two singles players and a doubles team with participants from each WAC institution which include your Mavericks, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and Utah Tech. The champions from each draw will advance to the ITA Conference Masters on Nov. 6-9 in San Diego, California.
Admission is free for all spectators with parking available in the surrounding streets and next to the Atwood Innovation Plaza.
Play gets underway with the singles quarterfinal round at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday. No. 8 seeded
Sofia Selle takes on the top seeded Maria Castano from Tarleton State on Court 2. Court 4 will feature
Tasnime Ahamout taking on the No. 5 seed Mariana Zurita Berdecio from Utah Tech.
Following singles play, doubles action will see the Mavs take on Abilene Christian on Court 2 at 2 p.m. CT or an hour after singles play concludes, whichever comes first. The duo of
Vanja Cado and Ahamout will represent UTA in doubles action.
The doubles champions will be crowned on Friday afternoon, with a third-place match taking place at the same time. After the semifinal round on Friday, the singles champion will be determined on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on court two. Consolation singles matches will be played at 10 a.m. CT on both days.
