JAGOSOVA DEFEATS GLORIA, 6-4, 7-6

PALO ALTO, Calif. - UT Arlington freshman Klara Jagosova defeated #23rd-ranked Melanie Gloria of Fresno State, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8), in the first round of the NCAA National Singles Tournament at the Taube Tennis Center.

Down 3-2, in the first set, Jagosova won the next three games to go ahead, 5-3. It included one game in which she broke Gloria's serve. The Prauge, Czech Republic native, split the next two games to take the first set, 6-4.

In set two, both players broke each other's serve to tie the score, 1-1. From there, they held serve, knotting the score, 6-6. In the tiebreaker, Jagosova was down 6-2 to the WAC Player of the Year, but fended off four set points to take the set with a 10-8 victory.

"We have been practicing together for the last two weeks and we have made a lot of progress," UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. "She played in a very comfortable zone tonight. She was always positive and showed a lot of heart, fending off four set points in the tiebreaker."

Jagosova will take on Lindsey Nelson of Southern California in the round of 32 on Thursday at 1 p.m. CT. Nelson is ranked 18th in the nation and has a 20-8 record as the Trojans' No. 1 player. Live stats will be available at www.gostanford.com.
