ORU (8-6) used a 5-0 run early in the opening game to seize control and open up a double-digit advantage. A pair of ORU errors and an Emily Nedderman kill brought UTA back to within double digits. The Golden Eagles would then utilize their size and take advantage of four Maverick hitting errors to take the game.
The Mavs put their best effort forward at the start of game three and used it to open an 8-6 advantage. The home team would battle back and take the lead for good at 20-19 on a kill from Thais Parada. Teena Sobczak kept the Mavs close, but it was not enough as ORU cruised to the victory.
Sobczak led the Mavs attack with 16 kills and 13 digs. Ashley Smith had a team-high 22 digs and was joined in double figures by Dani Johnson with 12 digs, and Dacus and Nedderman 10.
