DALLAS, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team improved its record to 5-2 as it made quick work of Grambling State in handing the Tigers a 30-23, 30-15, 30-14 defeat in the final match of the Radisson Hotel/Mustang Classic.
UTA (5-2) got off to a little bit of a slow start as they were matched point-for-point early on in the match before kills by Torie Dacus, Dani Johnson and Emily Nedderman opened the game up. The Mavs would maintain that lead throughout as they never let the Tigers get within six points in the victory.
Nedderman took control of the second game as she handed out 13 assists and recorded three of her career-best six service aces during the game.Teena Sobczak would lead the way with five kills and Gina Kalb added four kills, one solo block and one block assist.
UTA never let off the gas in the third game as the Mavs looked to their bench and got five kills from freshman Liz Curry and two more from Michelle Schwartz.
Kalb led the attack at the net for UTA as she recorded three solo blocks and six block assists. Dacus added seven block assists. The Mavs held the Tigers to a .025 hitting percentage.
The Mavs return to action next weekend as they host the Arlington Hilton/UTA Invitational at Texas Hall on Sept. 8-9.
