TYLER, Texas - UT Arlington's freshman pitching trio of Heather Fortenberry, Casey Clifton and Cara Hulme scattered three hits over three games as the Mavericks picked up wins over UT-Tyler, Texarkana Community College and North Central Community College in fall ball action Sunday afternoon here.
The games were switched to Sunday after heavy rains on Saturday.
UT Arlington defeated UT-Tyler 4-1 as Hulme (Grand Saline, Texas) allowed four strikeouts and two walks in the six-inning win. Junior Laura Jones (Rogue River, Ore.) and Clifton (Longview, Texas) combined on a two-hitter to lead the Mavericks to a 1-0 win over Texarkana. Fortenberry (Mesquite, Texas) allowed two hits in a 6-0 win over North Central C.C.
"It was good to see our young pitchers go out there and perform," said Hedrick. "We are a long way from being ready for the season opener (Feb. 9 at the University of Houston Tournament) but we are going to spend the fall games giving a lot of people playing time."
Offensively, senior Courtni Anderson (Mesquite, Texas) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, junior Kristin Moore (Allen, Texas) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Samantha Chumchal (Richwood, Texas) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Hulme had two hits and two RBIs.
UT Arlington returns to action Saturday, Sept. 30 when they host Odessa College at 10 a.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
