ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis team opens up the 2007 season on Friday as it plays host to Illinois State at the UTA Tennis Center. The match which was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. has been pushed back to 1 p.m.
With the start of the 2007 season UTA looks to defend its SLC title. Last season the UTA men's tennis team finished the regular season tied for first with Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and went on to win the Southland Conference Tournament and advance to the NCAA tournament.
The Mavs will be led by senior Diego Mattar in the No. 1 slot. According to head coach Diego Benitez, "We are going to need Diego to step-up and lead this team this year." Along with Mattar, Alberto Agis returns for his senior season after being named to the All Conference Second-Team in 2006.
The Mavs next match will be at College Station, Texas as they face-off with No. 21 Texas A&M at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
