SAN ANTONIO - UT Arlington volleyball won 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-26) over UTSA in Southland Conference action on Saturday. With the win the Mavs improve to 13-7 overall and 6-1 in league play.
Senior Torie Dacus recorded the double double with 13 kills and 15 digs. Setter Emily Nedderman led the defense with five blocks including one solo for the match.
The Mavericks and Roadrunners traded leads early in game one until UTSA went on a 4-0 to take an 11-7 lead. UTA answered with a 7-3 to tie the score 14-14. An ace from senior Dacus brought the Mavs even at 25 after a brief run by UTSA. A block assist from Nedderman and Ellen Murray sparked a 5-1 run by the Mavs to take game one 30-26.
In game two, the Mavs jumped out to the early lead and held it only allowing the 'Runners to tie it once. UTA took its biggest lead of the game at eight (20-12) behind the blocking of Murray, Nedderman and Teena Sobczak. From their, the Mavs used a 10-9 run to take the two-game lead heading into the break.
The Roadrunners took the early 7-3 advantage in game three. Freshman Bianca Sauls served up two aces in midst of a Maverick 5-0 run to give UTA its first lead of the game 8-7. UTSA pieced together a 9-4 run to take a 16-11 lead and force the Mavs to burn a timeout. An ace from Sobczak combined with a block from Sauls brought the Mavs even at 26. From there, UTA scored four straight points to win the match 30-26.
UTA will return to action on Friday when it travels to Lake Charles, La. for a Southland Conference match-up with McNeese State.
