ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis team lost its first match of the season to Illinois State, 4-3, at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. Diego Mattar opened up the match winning (6-3, 6-4) at the No.1 singles.
The Mavs and Cardinals were tied 3-3 heading into the doubles. Javier Herrera pulled out the win as the No. 4 singles (5-7, 6-4, 7-6) and Dmitry Minkin added the third point (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 6 spot.
UTA's Daniel Omana and Gonzalo Bienzobas won the No. 1 doubles battle (8-4), but it was not enough to take the point. Mattar and Herrera fell in the No. 2 spot (7-9), while Alberto Agis and Minkin put up a good fight in the No. 3 doubles eventually falling 8-9, 7-1.
UTA heads to College Station, Texas to face-off with No. 21 Texas A&M at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
