ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis team opened up its Southland Conference play with 5-2 wins over Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend. The Mavs improve their overall record to 4-4 and 2-0 in conference action.
In both matches the Mavs took two-of-three matches to win the doubles point and get UTA off to the 1-0 lead. UTA's Alberto Agis paired with Dmitry Minkin as the No. 3 doubles to win the tie breaker 10-8 over SLU's Jakub Kwasniewicz and Vladimir Paunic.
Minkin also won both of his singles matches this weekend. In the No. 5 slot, Minkin won 6-2 6-2 over Southeastern's Jakub Kwasniewicz and 6-4 6-1 over Nicholl's Ricardo van Bolderik.
Diego Mattar picked up the fifth point in UTA's win over the Lions coming back to defeat Matthieu Leboucher 6-2 5-7 6-3.
Javier Herrera picked up two singles wins on the week winning 6-1 7-5 against Nicholls and then 6-3 6-3 against Southeastern.
The Mavs next match is scheduled for Friday against Columbia.
