BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar Cardinals pitching staff continued to control the UT Arlington offense as the Mavs mustered only two hits as the Cardinals completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The loss drops the Mavs to 9-14 overall and 0-3 in Southland Conference action.

Jason Stutes (2-0) was the third Cardinals hurler to handcuff the Mavs as he allowed only two hits and struck out six in the complete-game victory.

The Cardinals (15-8, 3-0)) bats came alive in the second inning as Brian Lloyd singled to start the inning and scored on David Moore's double down the left-field line. Travis Dunson delivered a the big blow with a two-run shot to left field, his first of the season.

LU added to its lead in the fourth as Collin DeLome delivered an RBI triple down the left-field line and the second run scored on a Mavericks fielding error.

Nathan Long (1-3) took the loss as he gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits in four innings. Kendal Carrillo came into the game in the fifth and allowed just two hits and struck out three in four shutout innings.

The only highlight for the Mavs was they put an end to Erik Kanaby's school record 25-game hit streak.

The Mavs return to the diamond on March 20 as they play host to TCU. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
