HOUSTON - Senior Linda Rosema set a personal best marks in both the hammer throw and the discus to lead the Mavs in their 2007 outdoor season opener - the Tom Tellez Invitational Saturday.
Rosema's throw of 164-feet, 06-inches took second place in the hammer throw and her throw of 146-03 in the second gave her third place in the discus. She won the shot put competition with a put of 43-11.25.
Rosema's previous best in the hammer was 162-00 at the 2005 SLC Outdoor Championship and her discus best was 141-03.25 at the 2006 SLC Outdoor Championship.
Other top performances include:
- Stacey Bennett won the high jump competition with a leap of 5-04.50.
- Senior Kourtnee Jones finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.81.
- Senior Ivorita Taylor took eighth in the 400 meters with a 58.96 and second in the 1,500 meters with a 4:47.60.
- Carranda Mose finished fifth in the 1,500 meters with a 4:53.09 and sister Christina Mose took sixth with a 5:00.44.
- Freshman hurdler Jace Koelzer finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:13.33.
- Sophomore Erin Cluiss tied for second in the pole vault with a personal-best vault of 11-05.75.
- Freshman Emma Stahlberg took fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 157-05
- Angela Gonzales was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-01.75.
The women's and men's team will compete at the Horned Frog Invitational in Fort Worth on Saturday. utamavs.com
