WHEELS-OFF SEVENTH INNING SENDS MAVS TO FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS

March 20, 2007

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington committed three errors, including two on sacrifice bunt attempts, that led to five runs in the top of the seventh inning as TCU rallied for a 10-6 victory over the Mavs Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The inning started with a Ben Carruthers single to center field. The next batter put down a bunt, but the catcher's throw was dropped by the first baseman. On the next bunt attempt, the ball was thrown down the right-field line by the pitcher. Keith Conlon would later deliver a two-run double down the left-field line before Austin Adams delivered the final two runs with a two-run blast to left field.

The Horned Frogs' (16-6) bats picked up where they left off against the Mavs last week in the first inning as Steven Trout tucked a one-out double just inside the bag at third and scored on Austin Adams' two-out single through the left side. Andrew Walker drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI double off the top of the left-field wall.

TCU added another run in the third as Keith Conlon drew a two-out walk and scored on Adams' double to straight-away center field.

UTA (9-15) took the lead in the fifth inning as Leo Radkowski reached on a base on balls and David Masters followed with a base hit to third and both runners advanced on the throwing error. After John Mark Cleaveland walked to load the bases and Collin Garner delivered a two-run double to right field. Daniel Rieder followed with an RBI single to center field and an error by the center fielder allowed a second run to score.

The Mavs got two runs back in the bottom of the seventh as Ben Burum delivered a one-out single to right field and David Newby blooped a single just over the pitchers mound. Kyle Rudy followed with an RBI single to center field and Master delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle.

TCU got the two runs back in the eighth as a walk and a hit batter came around to score on Adams' two-run double to right center.

Donald Furrow (1-0) picked up the victory despite allowing two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Austin Coan (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up four runs, one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts in two-plus innings.

David Newby led the Mavs offense with four hits and Masters added three. Garner collected a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Adams paced the Frogs with three hits and five RBIs.

The Mavs return to the diamond on Friday, March 23, as they open a three-game Southland Conference series against Texas State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
