COLONELS COMPLETE SWEEP OF MAVS

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State right hander Michael Bartek (2-9) tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout as the Colonels completed the three-game sweep with a 5-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Colonels (9-40, 5-19 SLC) got on the board with two outs in the third as Anthony Marino's RBI single to left field was the third straight hit of the inning. After a fielding error loaded the bases, the second run scored on a Devin Steib walk.

NICH added another run in the fifth as Marino singled to right with two outs and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A.J. DeLaneuville drove in the runner with a single to left field.

The Mavs (12-34, 3-21 SLC) dug themselves into a bigger hole in the sixth as Zac Bone walked to start the inning and scored on a sacrifice bunt attempt was thrown past the center fielder. Shane Barksdale drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left.

Eamonn Donovan (0-3) took the loss after allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits and six strikeouts over six innings.

The Mavs return to action on May 11-13 when they host Stephen F. Austin in the final home series of the season.
