ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington Baseball has placed two players on the All-Western Athletic Conference Second Team, the league announced. Second baseman
Xavier Melendez and pitcher
Caylon Dygert were both recognized for their performances during the 2026 season.
Melendez earns the honor for the second consecutive year, having been named to the All-WAC Second Team as a first baseman in 2025. The senior shifted to second base this season and continued to anchor the Maverick lineup, hitting .355 with 72 hits, 11 doubles, five home runs and 39 RBIs across 47 starts. He posted a .483 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage, consistent with the production that earned him recognition a season ago.
Dygert earns his first career All-WAC honor after a standout junior campaign on the mound. The right-hander went 5-5 with a 3.82 ERA over 13 starts, logging 77.2 innings with 56 strikeouts. His season included a seven-inning shutout of Utah Tech on May 8 that earned him WAC Pitcher of the Week honors, and a memorable 8.2-inning, 11-strikeout performance against then-No. 6 Arkansas in February that drew national attention.
The Mavericks carry the momentum of both honors into the WAC Tournament, opening Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Utah Tech at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona.
